Statutory Assessments and Statements - The Process
This leaflet is a summary of how Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils (Local Authorities) conduct the statutory assessment process for children with special education needs and disabilities.
Survey on Parental Satisfaction with Statutory Assessment Process
This survey was carried out as a joint piece of work between Nottinghamshire SEN Officers, and PPS. It arose out of issues raised in the Lamb Inquiry, part of which explored parental confidence in SEN systems. The team carrying out the survey consisted of two SEN Officers, the Parent Partnership Officer and two parents, both of whom had had personal but different experiences of the statutory assessment process. The two parents, Steph and Jo, took on much of the practical work of chasing responses to the survey from the PPS offices, and thanks are due to them for this sterling commitment!
The survey results are published here in full. Following the survey analysis, there was a discussion between the survey team and the rest of the SEN Officers with the result that several points raised as very important to parents are to be addressed within routine practice during the statutory assessment process over the coming year. Steph and Jo felt very much that their views, and the views of other parents that they brought, were given due consideration by the SEN team and that changes to be put in place will increase the level of parental satisfaction and confidence within the process.
