Parent Partnership Service is recruiting volunteers to work with parents.

 

We offer a volunteering opportunity that is rewarding and challenging.

Parent Partnership Service is recruiting volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds who are:

 

 

The training is a free course, accredited with Open College Network.

 

We are running two courses starting early next year.

 

Newark Course

 

Taking place on Thursdays, 10.00 a.m. - 2.30 p.m.

Help! 2 Parent Seminar - Managing anger in young people with Asperger Syndrome

National Autistic Society

Location : The Brite Centre, Braunstone Avenue

This is a practical seminar that focuses on communication strategies and dealing with difficult behaviour.  It also looks at dealing with your son’s/daughter’s anger and some coping strategies.

 

In this particular seminar we will not be covering physical interventions

 

The seminar is specifically aimed at those parents/carers with

children aged 8 – 16 years of age with a diagnosis of Asperger
Syndrome or a child with an ASD who attends a mainstream school.

help! 2 is a National Autistic Society (NAS) programme

What is the aim of help! 2?

The help! 2 seminars aim to provide parents and full-time carers with information and advice, to support them in the care of their child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The parent seminars will cover a range of topics including How to write Social StoriesTM, Make your own Visual Supports, Supporting the Siblings of your child with an ASD, Managing Anger in young people with Asperger syndrome, Anti- Bullying and Meeting your child’s Sensory Needs.

About the seminars

The seminars will include presentations, group discussions, video material and practical activities. A help! 2 Parent Manual, including handouts, information booklets and leaflets is included in each seminar.

Please note that the seminars DO NOT include an introduction to autism spectrum disorders within their content and, therefore, it is recommended that parents/carers attending seminars already have some prior knowledge of ASD.

 

What does it cost?

The seminars are delivered free to parents/carers through the support of the Big Lottery Fund.

Who can attend the seminars?

The seminars are open to parents and carers of school age children, young people or adults, who have received a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to the criteria for each individual seminar - please see guidance notes overleaf.

How do I apply for a place on the seminars?

Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.  Confirmation letters will be sent out approx two weeks prior to the seminar date.

A chance to explore the effect the world has on your child’s senses and using activities that can help them deal with this.

The seminar is aimed at parents/ carers of people who have a diagnosis of autism, Aspergers syndrome or ASD.
